Now Time to Employee Appreciation Day

Now Time to Employee Appreciation DayNow Time to Employee Appreciation Day, The obvious or cliche comment about Employee Appreciation Day would be, “A holiday invented by famous greeting card companies to sell more cards.” And yet, the benefits of employee appreciation, as a subset of employee engagement, are difficult to dispute.

Employee Appreciation Day reminds me of what my dad used to say about Mother’s Day. “Shouldn’t people be good to their mothers every day?” A day dedicated entirely to appreciating your employees is nice, but if you’re doing what you should be, you’re letting your employees know you value them every day.

A key theme in employee appreciation and engagement is, actions speak louder than words. Clear communication of expectations, honest and spontaneous acknowledgment, public recognition, and doing what you say you will are all ways to appreciate employees. Develop their talents and respect their diversity. Encourage and empower them to contribute to their causes and give back to the community.

And yes, a company party, office lunch, and occasional greeting card are all good too.
