Kindel Fire - Amazon baru saja mengumumkan tablet layar sentuhnya untuk menyaingi Apple dengan iPad. Meski memiliki banyak fungsi serupa, tablet ini memiliki senjata ampuh.

Harga murah yang hanya setengah harga iPad menjadi senjata tablet ini melawan iPad. Tablet yang akan dijual seharga US$199 (Rp1,8 juta) ini berhasil memukau pada pengamat industri teknologi yang menyarankan Apple dan pembuat tablet lain menurunkan harganya.

Kindel Fire ini memadukan fitur pembaca eBook dengan kemampuan memutar music, film dan game serta berselancar di dunia maya. Bedanya dengan iPad 2 seperti dilaporkan Dailymail, tablet ini memiliki layar lebih kecil yakni tujuh inci serta tak memiliki kamera.

Kepala Eksekutif Amazon Jeff Bezos mengatakan, “Tablet ini mengintegrasikan semua hasil kerja kami selama 15 tahun. Ini produk premium dengan harga bukan premium. Jutaan tablet ini akan terjual."

Di Amerika Serikat (AS), tablet ini akan tersedia pada 15 November.

Di sisi lain, ahli teknologi Profesor Ajay Bhalla dari Cass Business School London mengatakan, “Penentuan harga tablet ini tak benar. Konsumen saat ini pandai dan ada banyak pilihan tablet di pasaran. Saya ragu tablet ini memberi tantangan berarti bagi iPad karena ketiadaan kamera."

Apple’s third generation version of the iPad 3

Apple’s third generation version of the iPad, presumably due in early 2012, will have to make substantial improvements to follow a strong but incremental second act.

In July of 2010, I wrote “The next generation iPad and what Apple needs to deliver.” Based on information gleaned from updates in iOS and information coming out of the semiconductor industry at the time, I updated that in November and polished the crystal ball — in my usual purely speculative way — of what I thought that iPad 2 might look like or the features it should contain.

The iPad 2 is now here. For the most part, much of what I thought would be in the new model did actually come to fruition, but I got a number of surprises and also some dissapointments as well. The iPad 2 is clearly a strong following from the first device, but the improvements are still more or less incremental.

In the next version, Apple is going to have to up the ante considerably, because its competitors are going to have plenty of time in 2011 getting their respective offerings honed and improved for the next product cycle.

For starters, let’s go through last year’s predictions and see where the hit and misses are and see if there is room for improvement in any of these areas.

Apple Resmi Luncurkan iPad 2

Produsen komputer raksasa AS, Apple, telah meluncurkan model terbaru dari komputer tablet populernya, iPad 2. Produk terbaru ini didesain lebih ringan dan dilengkapi dengan dua kamera.

Seperti dilansir situs NHK, Kamis (3/3), pucuk eksekutif (CEO) Apple Steve Jobs secara langsung memperkenalkan produk terbarunya di San Francisco, Amerika Serikat, kemarin. Generasi kedua iPad didesain lebih portabel dibanding versi sebelumnya dan memiliki ukuran layar yang sama. Hanya saja, ketebalannya berbeda satu sentimeter dan lebih ringan 100 gram hingga menjadi seberat sekitar 600 gram.

Model baru ini juga dilengkapi dengan dua kamera, yang terletak di setiap sisi perangkat. Sony Ericsson has unveiled the Xperia PLAY - the world's first “PlayStation Certified” smartphone. In regular usage, it’s an Android smartphone with a 5 megapixel camera, 4-inch multi-touch screen, and social networking features. But slide out the gaming control and the phone is transformed into a gaming device. The slide out game pad incorporates a digital D pad, two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four PlayStation icons: circle, cross, square and triangle. Qualcomm's optimized Snapdragon processor with a 1Ghz CPU and embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor deliver 60frames-per-second playback 3D mobile gaming and web browsing with “minimal power consumption”.

"Today is a very proud moment for Sony Ericsson as we bring something truly revolutionary to the market,” says Rikko Sakaguchi, executive vice president and chief creation officer at Sony Ericsson. “Living up to our vision of ‘Communication Entertainment’, Xperia PLAY will forever change the way people think about smartphones and mobile gaming.

The phone will run on Gingerbread (V2.3), the latest version of the Android platform. The XperiaTM PLAY will also be the first PlayStation Certified device. This means it will have access to PlayStation game content provided through the PlayStation Suite initiative, currently under development by Sony Computer Entertainment, and due to launch later this calendar year.

The handset maker has partnered with key publishers in the gaming industry to deliver a rich, vibrant ecosystem at launch, with many leading new titles available via Android Market. MSI WindPad 100A, Tablet Android dengan Tegra 2 Segera Hadir

MSI tidak mau ketinggalan dengan produsen tablet lainnya dengan mengumumkan tablet Android terbarunya di ajang CeBIT tahun ini. Dalam acara teknologi komunikasi dan informasi yang digelar di Hannover, Jerman ini MSI telah memperkenalkan WindPad 100A, yang merupakan percobaan pertamanya untuk masuk ke pasar tablet Android.

Tablet tersebut terlihat cukup menjanjikan, WindPad 100A telah dilengkapi dengan layar sentuh 10 inci dan berjalan dengan platform dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2. Meski begitu tablet ini baru akan tersedia di pasaran di sekitar kuartal ketiga atau kuartal keempat tahun ini.

JAKARTA - PT XL Axiata melaporkan bahwa pelanggan Blackberry mereka kini berjumlah 815 ribu pelanggan.

"Akhir 2010 lalu angka pengguna Blackberry kami tercatat sekira 750 ribu, naik lebih dari tiga kali lipat ketimbang akhir 2009. Akhir tahun ini kami optimis raihannya akan mencapai 2 kali lipat dibanding akhir 2010. Sekarang saja jumlahnya telah mencapai 815 ribu pelanggan," ujar Oni Marbun, Senior Manager MDS Blackberry XL, di Jakarta, Senin (28/2/2011).

Untuk mencapai raihan itu, XL pun berupaya menarik pelanggan dengan paket baru XL BlackBerry 3 in 1. Promo ini akan berlaku di seluruh wilayah cakupan XL di Indonesia mulai 28 Februari hingga 28 Mei 2011

Paket baru yang diklaim pertama di Asia ini memberikan manfaat kepada pelanggan berupa tarif hanya Rp 125 ribu/30 hari (sudah termasuk pajak) untuk layanan BlackBerry Internet Service (Full Service), gratis unlimited nelpon 24 jam ke 3 nomor XL yang didaftarkan, serta SMS ke semua nomor termasuk nomor selain XL.

With its revolutionary iPhone, Apple transformed the way mobile phones were used.
However, new research suggests the nation has switched its affections to rival devices, which have all the bells and whistles at a fraction of the cost.

A new survey reveals the iPhone has even dropped out of the list of top five of most sought after smartphones.

The news will be a blow to Apple, which has become rather comfortable, even arrogant, at the idea its devices are the most stylish and desired products available.

In fact, the U.S. giant, once the darling of techies, is suffering something of a consumer backlash.

The uSwitch.com Mobile Tracker, which ranks the nation’s favourite mobile handsets based on live searches and sales, shows HTC dominating the top three places.

By contrast, it said the iPhone has slipped down to an 'unsatisfying' sixth place.
HTC, formerly known as the High Tech Corporation, is based in Taiwan and has been in business since 1997 when it was launched as a notebook computer manufacturer.

The HTC Desire comes in at number one in the league table, ahead of the HTC Desire HD and the cheaper, less sophisticated, HTC Wildfire.

The touchscreen on the iPhone changed the way people use mobiles and has been widely copied by HTC and others.

All smartphones now offer hi-speed internet access and browsing, together with video, music and games.

Apple had an advantage because of the tens of thousands of Apps, including maps, games and other services that could be downloaded.

However, handsets using the Android operating system, which was developed by Google, can also access thousands of similar Apps.

uSwitch said: 'Launched in October 2010, the HTC Desire has been deemed a showcase of the best that the Android operating system has to offer.

'As well as providing access to thousands of Apps, consumers have been seduced by bespoke charms such as the ability to silence a call by simply turning the phone over.'

Perhaps the biggest advantage the Desire has over the iPhone is the price. It is possible to get the handset for free based on a contract charging £20 a month for 24 months.

By contrast, it would cost £69 to buy a 16GB iPhone 4 coupled with a contract charging £35 a month for 24 months.

The Desire has received a host of positive reviews from industy analysts.
Flora Graham, of CNET UK, said: 'HTC has packed every feature under the sun into the Desire, along with a slick user interface and plenty of processing power. The Desire is a smart phone that inspires lust.'

Hannah Bouckley of T3 said: 'It’s a strong contender for phone of the year, and sure to be number one with technophiles for the foreseeable future.'

Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com, said: 'The competition is taking a huge bite out of Apple’s market. And, with over 800,000 deals currently giving away a smartphone for free, it’s easy to see how consumers are being lured away from the iPhone.

'Many have to account for every penny spent, but at the same time do not want to miss out on owning the latest gadget. A free handset is a much more attractive proposition than shelling out for one – especially at iPhone prices.

'HTC has outsmarted the smartphone market by customising its handsets at a range of price points.

'It’s clever marketing. Google’s Android operating platform really cuts the mustard in terms of the thousands of applications available, especially on the gaming side.
'Android phones have well and truly pipped Apple to the post.'

Mr Doku stressed Apple is far from throwing in the towel. New versions of the iPhone and iPad are expected to be revealed by the summer.
