Man Updates Facebook Status During Police Standoff

Kocim news - Jason Valdez Updates Facebook Status, Adds Friends During Police Standoff. SALT LAKE CITY -- Jason Valdez is no stranger to Utah police. His latest brush with the law, however, may have been the most public.

An armed Valdez, 36, held a woman hostage at a motel in a tense 16-hour, overnight standoff with SWAT teams, all while finding time to keep his family and friends updated on Facebook, authorities said.

He even got some help from the outside over the social network: A friend posted that a SWAT officer was hiding in the bushes.

"Thank you homie," Valdez replied. "Good looking out."

When officers swarmed the room, Valdez shot himself in the chest with a handgun, Ogden police said. On Tuesday, he was in critical condition.

The Associated Press reviewed Valdez's Facebook profile page on Tuesday. Police believe he wrote the messages during the standoff.

It wasn't immediately clear, however, whether police were following the posts in real-time, though the department spokeswoman said officers routinely search the Internet and other sources for background on suspects.

In all, Valdez made six posts and added at least a dozen new friends.

His family and friends responded with 100 comments. Some people offered words of support, and others pleaded for him to "do the right thing."

Court records show Valdez has a criminal history, including convictions for aggravated assault and domestic violence in front of a child.

In March, prosecutors filed felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges against Valdez. A judge issued a warrant for Valdez's arrest after he missed a June 1 preliminary hearing in the case.

On Friday afternoon, Ogden police tried to serve Valdez with a felony drug warrant for the missed court appearance.

Valdez barricaded himself inside the Western Colony Inn.

"I'm currently in a standoff ... kinda ugly, but ready for whatever," Valdez wrote in his first post at 11:23 p.m. "I love u guyz and if I don't make it out of here alive that I'm in a better place and u were all great friends."

Valdez said in posts that he was with a woman named Veronica. Police described her as a hostage.

In his posts, Valdez told friends when police shut off the power that his "hostage" was fine – and with him willingly – and that police are jeopardizing her life by their actions.

At 2:04 a.m., Valdez posted two pictures of himself and the woman.

"Got a cute `Hostage' huh," Valdez wrote of the photographs.

At 3:48 a.m., one of Valdez' friends posted that police had a `gun ner in the bushes stay low." Valdez thanked him in a reply.

The final post was at 7:25 a.m. Saturday: "Well i was lettin this girl go but these dumb bastards made an attempt to come in after i told them not to, so i popped off a couple more shots and now were startin all over again it seems ..."

SWAT officers stormed Valdez's room about 90 minutes later. Police never fired, Ogden Lt. Danielle Croyle said.

Police believe that responses from Valdez's friend gave him an advantage.

Authorities are now discussing whether some of Valdez' friends should be arrested and charged with obstruction of justice for hampering a police investigation. "We're not sure yet how to deal with it," said Croyle.

"We're talking about it and trying to figure out how do we address the kind of conflict that it presents," Croyle said.

Valdez could be facing new charges stemming from his actions during the standoff, including fire his handgun at police, Croyle said.

Man hides in a portaloo waste tank

Kocim news - Using a portable toilet is a harrowing experience at the best of times.

But one female festival-goer was given the shock of her life when she lifted the loo seat to discover a man hiding in the waste tank.

The woman was attending the Hanuman Yoga Festival in Boulder, Colorado, when she was caught short and forced to use one of the dreaded plastic loos.

She told police she dashed outside after noticing something moving inside the tank when she lifted the lid.

Believing there might be a person trapped she asked a man who was standing nearby to go in and check.

He confirmed that there was a man covered in a tarpaulin hiding inside the tank.

A few minutes later, he heard the door lock from the inside. A festival security man waited outside for several minutes before the man finally emerged.

According to festival officials, security tried to detain the man but he ran away, covered in feces.

He is described as a white male, about 20 years old, 6ft 4ins to 6ft 8ins tall, thin build, with short dark hair and wearing dark grey sweatpants and no shirt or shoes.

Witnesses say the suspect had several cuts on his back and legs. The suspect was also wearing leather bracelets on each wrist, officials said.

Police are trying to trace the man who is being sought on charges of criminal attempt to make unlawful sexual contact.

One witness told officers he believed the suspect uses the name 'Sky,' and that he may be a transient.

Husband attacks wife with pet poodle in Brazil

Not this time. Rather than storming out of the house or slamming doors, the huband hits his wife ... with a poodle. Yes a poodle.

Police in southern Brazil say the man picked up the dog and swung it into his wife's head twice, reports the Associated Press.

The 4-pound dog died. The wife suffered only minor bruises.

As of Wednesday, the man had not been arrested, but police were urging prosecutors to charge him with assault and battery and cruelty to animals, according to the AP.

Astronomers have found a nascent star 750 light years from earth

Kocim news - In a process that almost defies adjectives and analogies, each jet of water is the equivalent of a hundred million times the water flowing through the Amazon River every second and the speed of the jet is the equivalent of 80 times the muzzle velocity of an AK-47 assault rifle.

The blast creates huge shockwaves around the star and the process may be responsible for sprinkling the universe with water.

And it could go on for a thousand years in each star. Astronomers think all baby stars go through this process as they form, and that our sun did it too once.
The protostar was found in the Perseus constellation in an object called L1448-MM, seen from the earth to the right of the Pleiades, also called the Seven Sisters cluster of stars, in the constellation of Taurus. It is called a low-mass protostar, meaning it is just beginning to grow into a star.

While jets like that have been seen in other baby stars, astronomers, using the European Space Agency’'s Herschel infrared orbiting telescope were able to measure the flow of the jets using water molecules as the tracer.

Lars E. Kristensen, a postdoctoral student at the Leiden University in the Netherlands, an author of the paper, said that all stars are formed by the accretion of dust and other particles in interstellar space and are eventually surrounded by a disk of material that falls into the star as it builds.

The disks are something like the rings of Saturn but far less well-defined, he said, "more puffy."

Material that is not used by the forming star is blasted back out into space from the poles, perpendicular to the angle of the disks.

"We don’'t know the launching point or the exact launching mechanism," Kristensen said. "There is no self-consistent theory that can explain what we are seeing."

Farah menyampaikan pula, jika sudah tiba waktunya, Irfan dan Jennifer akan menerangkan rencana pernikahan mereka kepada media dan publik. Gara-gara Menghadap Makam, 220 Unit Apartemen Tak Laku

Kocim news - Lelang aset negara besar-besaran dari bulan Juni hingga Agustus oleh Kementerian Keuangan terdiri dari aset properti Badan Penyehatan Perbankan Nasional (BPPN) dan barang milik pengutang Bantuan Likuiditas Bank Indonesia (BLBI). Kasubdit Pelayanan Kekayaan Negara (PKN) II Direktrorat PKNSI Direktorat Jenderal Kekayaan Negara Encep Sudarwan mengatakan, lelang dimulai 13 Juni sampai 23 Juli.

Lelang berlangsung di 13 KPNKL di seluruh Indonesia seperti Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi, Lampung dan lain-lain. Encep menyebutkan, nilai aset properti yang akan dilelang pada Juni ini sebesar Rp 300 miliar. Salah satu aset tersebut adalah apartemen yang terletak di bilangan Casablanca sebanyak 220 unit.

"Hampir semua unit menghadap ke kuburan. Jadi, marketability apartemen ini agak susah, dan harga Nilai Jual Objek Pajak tinggi, namun harga market rendah," tuturnya, akhir pekan kemarin.

Adapun, untuk total aset properti eks BPPN sekitar Rp 1,05 triliun. Selain aset eks BPPN, pemerintah juga akan melelang aset BLBI pada akhir Juni ini. Aset yang akan dilelang itu yaitu di Pecenongan Jakarta seharga Rp 70 miliar.

Selain itu, aset lainnya berlokasi di Bali yang nilainya Rp 37 miliar. Aset lainnya juga ada di Serpong yang akan dilelang dengan banderol Rp 80 miliar.

Encep menambahkan, semua aset yang akan dilelang tersebut milik obligor atas nama Kaharudin Ongko. Sedangkan, unuk aset BLBI lainnya direncanakan akan dilelang pada bulan Juli atau Agustus.

Sebelumnya, Dirjen Kekayaan Negara Kementerian Keuangan Hadiyanto mengungkapkan aset eks BPPN yang akan dilelang adalah 137 aset properti.

"Lelang aset eks BPPN ini terbuka, diumumkan di koran. Tentu ada uang jaminan," ungkapnya, akhir pekan lalu.

Direktur Lelang DJKN Suryanto menyebut, lelang aset negara hasil restrukturisasi BPPN itu sudah berjalan secara bertahap di seluruh Kantor Pelayanan Kekayaan Negara dan Lelang (KPKNL) di mana barang tersebut berada.

"Salah satunya hari Kamis (16/6/2011) kemarin di lelang di KPKNL Padang," katanya.

Staf teknisi Konsulat Jenderal Republik Indonesia (KJRI) di Jeddah, Budhi H Laksana, menyampaikan kronologis permasalahan hukum yang dijalani Ruyati hingga akhirnya dieksekusi.

Melalui siaran pers yang diterima INILAH.COM, inilah penjelasan proses hukum yang dijalani Ruyati;

1.Pada tanggal 12 Januari 2010, Ruyati telah membunuh majikannya, Khariyah Hamid (64 tahun) dengan pisau jagal (pisau besar) kemudian menusuk leher korban dengan pisau dapur.

2. Kasus ditangani oleh Kepolisian Sektor Al Mansur Makkah Al Mukarromah penanganannya sejak awal tergolong cepat mengingat besarnya kasus dan kuatnya bukti-bukti yang ditemukan di TKP.

3. Kepolisian Al Mansur dan Badan Investigasi dan Penuntut Umum Makkah menginformasikan Ruyati dengan gamblang dan santai "mengakui" telah membunuh majikannya. Motif pembunuhan adalah rasa kesal akibat sering dimarahi oleh ibu majikan dan kecewa karena majikan tidak mau memulangkan. Ruyati juga menyatakan berniat untuk melarikan diri namun pintu rumah selalu terkunci sehingga tidak dapat keluar dari rumah majikan. Ruyati mengaku tidak pernah disiksa oleh majikannya.

4. KJRI menghadiri persidangan Ruyati sebanyak 2 kali yaitu tanggal 3 dan 10 Mei 2010. Dalam persidangan, Ruyati didampingi olehdua penterjemah mahkamah berkebangsaan Indonesia dan dua orang dari KJRI Jeddah. Begitu juga pada saat proses investigasi di Badan Investigasi dan saat reka ulang (rekontruksi) di TKP, Ruyati didampingi oleh penterjemah.

5. Sebagai upaya bantuan hokum, KJRI Jeddah telah mengirim dua Nota Diplomatik ke Kemlu Saudi Arabia tanggal 19 Mei 2010 dengan Nomor: 1948 dan tanggal 14 Agustus 2010 No. 2986 yang pada intinya meminta agar kepada KJRI diberikan akses kekonsulreran seluas-luasnya sebagaimana lazimnya termasuk informasi tentang jadwal persidangan, pendampingan dan pembelaan dalam sidang-sidang berikutnya untuk mendapatkan salinan putusan hukum terhadap Ruyati Bt Satubi.

6. Sehubungan dengan pemberitaan eksekusi qisas yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah Saudi Arabia, pihak KJRI telah melayangkan Nota Diplomatik informasi atas tidak adanya informasi mengenai jadwal eksekusi kepada Ruyati.
